A woman who lived with her mother’s dead body for three years has been arrested in Texas, police say.
Seguin Police Department arrested 47-year-old Delissa Navonne Crayton, whose daughter was also living in the two-bedroom property.
Police found skeletal remains in one of the bedrooms on 7 July and believe they are those of Crayton’s mother, Jacqueline Louise Crayton.
Police are waiting for final confirmation on the identification of the remains.
Investigators believe that during 2016, Ms Crayton suffered a non-life-threatening fall in her room in the home she shared with her daughter and granddaughter.
At the time of the fall, Crayton failed to provide adequate assistance, police said, leading them to believe Ms Crayton died within a few days while lying on the floor.
They estimate Ms Crayton was around 71 years old when she died.
Crayton continued to live in the property with her daughter, who was under the age of 15 at the time.
Crayton was detained “for injury to a child under the age of 15 through recklessly, by omission, causing to a child, serious mental deficiency, impairment or injury”, police said.
They added the offence is a “second-degree felony punishable by imprisonment from two to 20 years and a fine up to $10,000 (£8,056)”.
The child has been placed with family members and is receiving support from child protection services.
